Long Island!

We made it!  After a a very stressful drive from Jersey we landed at a campground in Old Bethpage.  Our first stop was Rockville Center downtown for some good bagels and a nice stroll threw the town.  Everything is so close to each other there is no sense in using the truck.  I spotted S/K speed shop and made a beeline to it!  Its one of those shops that looks small from the outside, but once inside its jam packed with all the good stuff!  After drooling over all the hotrod parts and talking with the guys in the store we went down to Karen's father's old animal hospital.  We went inside to show the kids where"Papa" had worked and that it still had his last name on the building.  Karen took a stroll down memory lane with the kids by telling them stories of when she was their age and working at the hospital. We met some of the original employees that worked there with Karen's father and they took us on a tour around the hospital to see some of the changes made to hospital. Next stop, Karen's childhood house and a trip to her school, all the while Karen is shouting out all of her childhood memories.  The day was filled with nice places to see such as parks and playgrounds, grandparent's houses, friend's houses along with favorite pizza joints and seafood restaurants!  We ended our day with some fresh little neck clams for Karen, bought from a local fish market and then some sausage and peppers that came from a local butcher.  All in all Rockville Center is a beautiful little town with a lot of family history and small town charm!  I can see why Karen holds this place, so near and dear to her heart.
